Karippaddamurippu Village, Mullaitivu Water Project.

2021-12-17 | North Central Region | Mullaitivu

After the end of civil war in Sri Lanka, the displaced people of Karippaddamurippu village, resettled in the village. There are approximately 160 resettled families with 600 individuals in this village. The villagers largely depend on agriculture for their livelihood, mostly doing farming or manual labour. The existing water source is salty, and not suitable for drinking and cooking purposes; the people of these impoverished villages had for many years been without safe drinking water.

Sri Sathya Sai International Organisation (SSSIO) in Sri Lanka initiated a Water Project to address the scarce water resource in the village. The project is initiated with the support from Vision of Love (UK), the Sri Lankan Army personnel (23 VIR) and the Karippaddamudi Murugan Temple Society.

Foundation stone for Water Purification Plant was laid at Karippaddamurippu, Mullaitivu on 17.12.2021. It is estimated, about 1400 individuals per day would benefit from this water project including the villagers from Karippaddamurippu village and the neighboring villages, students and staff of the Karippaddamurippu Government Tamil Mixed School, the people who travel along the Mankulam to Mullaitivu main road and the Sri Lankan Army personnel in an army camp nearby the village.
