Sathya Sai School - Manipay

About the School

Education should be available to every child, irrespective of race or economic status. In the conclusion of His divine Discourse in 2002, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba declared that there shall be a Sai School established in Sri Lanka. The School was opened on the 6th of January in 2003.

Mission

The integration of human values in school curriculum is achieved by adopting five teaching techniques; silent sitting, prayers, storytelling, group singing and group activities. These methods aim to bring out human excellence in children through the guidance of specially trained teachers. Development of character is the end-goal of a sound education, and by achieving this potential, students will exemplify the qualities of human and academic excellence, and skilfulness.

Curriculum

The Sathya Sai School follows the national education curriculum outlined by the Government of Sri Lanka, and supplements it with the Universal Human Values of Truth, Right-Conduct, Peace, Love and Non-Violence. It provides a process of lifelong learning and self-transformation. The school also provides a wider range of extracurricular activities to further instil human values in children. The values are also enhanced in the methods used in the classroom and playground, and in the ways the students and teachers interact with each other throughout the day. Education in human values for parents are also provided to promote dynamic parenting, and in an aspiration to lead the children by example.

This school stands as a model for other schools to instil human values in the lives of students. lt also develops and demonstrates a solid foundation for value based behaviours and qualities in the children.

History

In 2003, with an initial 25 students in the 1st grade and 2 teachers, the school laid its foundation as a pre-school, which later saw results of gradual and steady growth. This pre-school was previously organized and successfully run by the Manipay Sathya Sai Seva Center since January 1994. With the help of the Sooriya Foundation, the construction of school’s building commenced in 2OO2.

The school has been experiencing a steady growth throughout the last decade, with 180 students currently enrolled in grades 1 - 11, with the oversight of 16 staff. Students are taught in their mother-tongue up to 5th grade, after which the medium of instruction is shifted to English.

The school now functions in two blocks, one of which is a three-storied building. lt is equipped with a library, science lab, conference hall, prayer hall, music room, and multi-purpose rooms as well. All facilities are provided free of charge to the students; this includes uniforms, books and mid-day meals.

Management

This school is managed by a committee of 9 members and a Board of Governors, with the technical guidance of the institute of Sathya Sai Education, Colombo, overseen by the National Council of the Sri Sathya Sai International Organisation of Sri Lanka.
