Medical Camp in Muruththanai.

2018-03-04 | Eastern Region | Muruththanai

The Eastern Region Coordinating Committee of the SSIO of Sri Lanka collaborated with the Sathya Sai Centre of Thamaraikerny, to conduct a medical camp in the village of Muruththnai, Batticaloa. The village is situated in the middle of a dense forest, and the people live in fear of wild elephant attacks. Thus, access to emergency medical care during the night is virtually impossible.

A total of 4 doctors, 4 nurses, 1 eye technician, 1 dental therapist, 1 pharmacist, and 19 Sai youths participated in this medical camp. Approximately 300 people, including 120 children and elders, were screened. Tests included diagnosis for hypothyroidism, bronchitis, and the need for removal of hernia. If required, they were referred to Batticaloa Teaching Hospital for further consultation and care.

The villagers were also given awareness of Oral Hygiene and Personal Health via audiovisuals. Personal items of hygiene (including soap cases, toothbrushes), nutritional food packs (samaposha), and footwear were distributed to children and elders.
