Selvapuram
Selvapuram Village in the Jaffna district in the Northern Part of Sri Lanka was adopted in June 2017. About 340 families have resettled here in the year 2006 after being displaced due to the war. Their main occupation is manual labour and trading on a small scale. Villagers from this village had sought help to improve children’s character.
Activities carried out are as follows,
- Repairing of 5 bore wells and 1 large common well.
- Providing a cover and repair the sides of the wells.
- Donation of a bicycle to a boy and a sewing machine to another family
- Distribution of plants and seeds for home gardening.
- A small house was built for a family.
- Conducting EHV Classes for 80 children every week.
- EHV Classes to 150 Female heads of Families once a week on Spirituality, Human Values in daily life, health & hygiene and parenting.
- On the fifth Friday of every month, special classes are organized with Prayer and cultural events such as padha pooja to mothers and Nagarasankeerthan.
- Support for 17 children to continue with schooling by providing tuition fees.
- A small multipurpose shed was built to conduct classes.
As a result, the community has begun to follow Swami’s teachings. Currently, a plan to establish a Bhajan Mandali is in progress. A positive increase in the number of children following EHV classes was seen.
