Sri Lanka Esala Festival Medical Camp Kataragama.

Under the divine grace of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the SSSIO Sri Lanka held a remarkable free medical camp from July 18th to 20th near the Kaali Temple at the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya premises. 

The Esala Festival, a vibrant and spiritually charged event, draws thousands of devotees from all corners of Sri Lanka to the revered site of Lord Muruga in Kataragama. Many pilgrims embark on the Padha Yathra, a spiritual journey of immense physical endurance. Recognizing the challenges faced by these dedicated pilgrims, the SSSIO has been conducting this medical camp for years, and this year too, providing essential healthcare support to ensure the well-being of the pilgrims throughout their spiritual journey.

The medical camp was a hive of activity and compassion, with free medical care being tirelessly provided by a team of dedicated doctors, paramedics, and volunteers. A wide range of ailments were treated, including respiratory infections, gastrointestinal issues, asthma, and other chronic illnesses. This year, a total of 720 devotees were served over three days, ensuring that their spiritual journey could continue with peace of mind.

Daily Highlights:

The camp was supported by a dedicated team of 8 doctors, 6 paramedics, and 15 volunteers, who worked tirelessly to deliver compassionate and efficient care throughout the camp.

  • Day 1 (July 18, 2024): The camp commenced with a commendable effort, serving 200 devotees. The unwavering commitment of our team was evident as they provided timely and attentive care, creating a supportive environment for all.
  • Day 2 (July 19, 2024): On the second day, the number of devotees rose to 390. Despite the higher demand, the consistent and skilled team continued to handle the influx with remarkable efficiency and empathy.
  • Day 3 (July 20, 2024): The final day saw 130 devotees receiving care. The dedication of our doctors, paramedics, and volunteers remained unwavering, ensuring that every individual was met with the same level of excellent service as on previous days.

  1. Acute Illnesses:
    • Respiratory infections
    • Gastrointestinal issues
    • Urinary tract infections
    • Allergies
    • Eye & skin infections
    • Asthma
  2. Chronic Illnesses:
    • Diabetes Mellitus
    • Thyroid disorders
    • Cardiac diseases
  3. Joint and Muscle Pains:
    • Joint aches
    • Knee pains
    • Muscle strains and sprains
  4. Emergency Cases:
    • Diabetic Ketoacidosis
    • Chest pain with suspected cardiac history
    • Pediatric patients with severe diarrhea/vomiting (referred to General Hospital)

The medical camp, inspired by the divine teachings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, was a beacon of hope and relief for the pilgrims of the Esala Festival. By addressing a wide range of health issues, the medical camp ensured that devotees could focus on their spiritual journey with peace of mind. The SSSIO Sri Lanka remains steadfast in its commitment to this sacred service, continually embodying the values of love, compassion, and selflessness.
