The Sathya Sai International Organisation Sri Lanka of the western and southern region took
initiative to perform cataract surgeries. These surgeries were performed to those who
struggle in poverty and cannot afford to buy lenses. It was recorded that 200 successful
cataract surgery were carried out at the Hambantota base hospital in the month of
December 2018. Currently, it has been identified that there are 3500 other patients in the
waiting list to cataract surgeries whereas, the government has allocated only 150 surgeries
per annum.
