Eight Sri Lankan graduates from the SSILP( Sathya Sai International Leadership Program) batch of 2017 visited an underprivileged community living along the coastline in the town of Moratuwa (a little South of the capital city of Colombo)and conducted an awareness session on the negative effects of ocean waste. This program was followed by a coastal cleanup immediately the week after.
Representatives from the community attended the awareness session with their children, which helped them understand the importance of waste management and segregation, and joined hands with YAs to clean the beach together.
The graduates hope that the community will one day realise the values behind this practice, and work independently to sustain it in the long term.
