100 families in Velikandy , Katkovalam , Manthikai , Mathanai , Thambasiddy and Point Pedro areas in the Northern part of Sri Lanka who were affected by the current economic crisis, were selected to provide support to meet their own food requirement by doing home gardening. Each family were given the following plants along with 2kg fertilizer. The plants given were tomato, chilli, ladies finger, brinjal & yard long bean
Most of the beneficiaries were from Velikandy village who are people who have been resettled after the war. Hand over of plants with fertilizer was done at the community hall in Velikandy Village on August 7, 2022. A total of 300 plants each of tomato, chilli, ladies finger, brinjal & yard long bean along with 200kg of fertilizer were distributed. A briefing on how home gardening could be done effectively, and its benefit was done to the recipients.
