The Northern Region of the Sri Sathya Sai International Organisation Sri Lanka identified a family of four in need of shelter and assistance to meet their basic needs in the Puloly Northwest area of Point Pedro in the Jaffna district. The family includes two school-going children. The mother is a homemaker who is also a Sai devotee who regularly participates in the Centre activities and the father is a laborer and the sole breadwinner of the family. The health condition of the father was weak as he underwent surgery due to a brain tumor. As a result, he was unable to carry out heavy labour work and the family was struggling to meet their daily basic needs.
In addition, the family had to live in separate residences of the relatives, as they did not own a house of their own nor land to construct one. They were receiving limited support from the government social project scheme and monthly dry ration packs by SSSIO Sri Lanka.
The Sai Centre identified land with a house, repaired it, and provided shelter to the family to live safely with dignity. The land surrounding the house has been used for home gardening to enable the family to earn an income. The house is situated nearby to the children’s school. The housing project and the home gardening Seva activities by the Region aims at providing a secure living and regular income enabling families to live together as it is crucial for the mental and physical wellbeing of the children.
On the auspicious day of Guru Poornima (24th July 2021) the housewarming ceremony was held, and the house was handed over to the family.
